The Mexican street food chain, Wahaca, is hosting a 3 day event in the Leake Street tunnel under Waterloo Station. Enjoy street food from Wahaca as well as other celebrated food vendors such as Patty & Bun, Bob’s Lobster and Anna Mae’s Mac & Cheese.
What is it?
In their own words, ‘Discover a nocturnal celebration of Modern Mexico at Wahaca’s 3 night agave fuelled fiesta where the living come to celebrate the dead, through music, performance, art and street food.’
Join in with the immersive theatre group Shotgun Carousel as they lead the Day of the Dead (Dia de Muerto) procession through Leake Street and into the The Vaults tunnels. Once inside, let your soul free to electro-Mexican DJ’s Rayo, Carl Jader and Oscar Arroyo in the Mezcal-grave-rave-yard. There will also be latin-punk, Afro-Mexican beats and Indi mambo sounds from the likes of Centavrvs, Los Chinches, Los Indios (headlining on Thursday), Orkesta Mendoza (headlining on Friday) and Family Atlantica (headlining on Saturday).
Witness the colourful Mexican shrines celebrating the lives of David Bowie, Alan Rickman, Prince and other greats who departed this last year. Finally, try your hand at body painting in the lustful life-drawing tunnel with body paint models.
Food and Drink Wahaca Style
As mentioned above, Wahaca will be bringing their unique take on Mexican street food from the streets down underground. Enjoy Wahaca’s Taco Truck and vendors such as Patty & Bun, Bob’s Lobster and Anna Mae’s Mac & Cheese. You can also sample Mexican beers, Margaritas, Pan de Muerto, Hot Chocolate and other Mexican delights.
If street food is not your thing, take a seat at Santiago Lastra’s Supper Club. The tickets for the supper club include entry to the whole Day of the Dead fiesta so you won’t need to worry about having to buy extra tickets. Diners will be able to enjoy an exclusive 4 course meal courtesy of Santiago Lastra before taking on the fiesta celebrations. There are only limited seats available so head over here now to buy before they sell out.
