It was recently reported that Stephen Dorff was cast in Season 3 of True Detective. He joined a cast which already includes Carmen Ejogo and Mahershala Ali. It is fair to say that True Detective has had a tumultuous existence. Certainly, Season 1 was a brilliant season of television. But, Season 2 got derided to such a degree that it weakened my enthusiasm to watch it.
I still have not seen Season 2 and do not plan to do so. However, the casting for Season 3 has peaked my interest. I am more eager than I was before to watch Season 3 of True Detective because of the casting, especially when it comes to Mahershala Ali. Now, another addition to the cast has been made.
Indeed, Scoot McNairy has now been cast in Season 3 of True Detective. As well as confirming that Season 3 is well into pre-production, it also shows that HBO is committed to adding talent to a season of television which needs to be great. The recent work of Scoot McNairy in films such as Argo, 12 Years a Slave and Gone Girl shows how good of a character actor he is.
Additionally, his recent work in television shows such as Halt and Catch Fire, Godless and his small role in Season 3 of Fargo shows that he is familiar with the television industry. Moreover, those television shows received critical acclaim. Perhaps this is proof that Scoot McNairy has a knack at choosing roles in seemingly great TV shows. I have not had the chance to watch Scoot McNairy in his television roles. Still, I do not doubt that McNairy’s role in those TV shows showcased the talent he has.
I think that he will be a great addition to Season 3 of True Detective. According to Deadline, “McNairy will play Tom, a father who suffers a terrible loss that ties his fate to that of two state police detectives over 10 years”. HBO’s programming chief Casey Bloys confirmed that we should not expect Season 3 of True Detective to air until 2019. If talent continues to be added to this season of television, then it will soften the blow of the wait and my excitement for the return of True Detective will grow. I hope that even more good news about Season 3 is forthcoming.
