For me, Michael Pena is one of the best things about the Ant-Man films. In these MCU movies, he is able to showcase his comedic talent in a great way. One of his latest roles is in the TV show Narcos: Mexico where he gets to showcase his dramatic chops as an actor. In an interview with Variety, he was given the opportunity to speak about this new season of Narcos.
This is what Michael Pena had to say on how he joined the cast of Narcos: Mexico as well as how he prepared for his role in this Netflix television show:
“Eric Newman came to me about three years ago, and he told me there was a part for me in Season 4 to play Kiki Camarena. I remember seeing Camarena on the cover of Time Magazine so I was really excited because for me, he is a Latin hero. I didn’t hear from Eric for a while and then a year and half later, he told me they were starting it back up.”
“First of all, it’s a real person so you can’t take many liberties. I met with Mika Camarena, his wife, and just talked to her. I wanted to see what made him tick. What made Kiki Kiki. I wanted to know what it took to have put his life in danger to catch the ‘bad guys.’ She told me that that was who he was.”
“He had been in the military; he fought for justice so in his eyes, he was always fighting for justice. You know as an actor, you can’t overthink things so she helped me to simplify it.”
