San Diego Comic-Con is the annual event that allows the entertainment industry to woo the fans of their upcoming films and television shows. In recent times, the event has become more than just panel discussions with enthusiasts eagerly anticipating sneak peek trailers. With all the trailers on show, 2017’s Comic-Con did not disappoint. Here is our list of the top 10 trailers that were screened this year.

Stranger Things, Season 2

Whilst Game of Thrones is usually one of the most anticipated trailers, this year the second season of Stranger Things stole the show. The makers teased the return of the psychokinetic Eleven, looked at how Will Byres is adjusting to real-life again and shows snippets of how the town of Hawkins will fair in this new season. The trailer was completed with the inclusion of Michael Jackson’s Thriller as the score throughout. Season 2 of Stranger things will be released on Netflix on the 27th of October 2017.

Justice League

Riding the success of Wonder Woman (we will try to forget 2016’s Batman VS Superman), DC released the trailer for their upcoming super hero team-up Justice League. The trailer showcased the films villain, Steppenwolf (played by Game of Thrones’ Ciaran Hinds) , and teased the kind of super hero action scenes that audiences have to come to expect.  Justice League is scheduled for release on the 17th of November 2017.

Thor: Ragnarok

Marvel turned up the fun factor with Thor: Ragnarok. The third installment in the Thor franchise (and the 17th in the Marvel film franchise) sees Thor battle in an effort to preserve his homeland. The screening also showcased the villain, Hela the Goddess of Death, played by Cate Blanchett. Jeff Goldblum is also reprising his role as The Grandmaster (he was first seen in the post credits of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2). Thor: Ragnarok is going to be released on the 27th of October 2017.

Marvel’s The Defenders

Its only a few short weeks until we get to watch Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist team up to fight crime together. This trailer gave away just enough to wet our appetite for this smaller scale super hero team-up. Marvel’s The Defenders is due to release on Netflix on the 18th of August 2017.

Ready Player One

Steven Spielberg’s live action take on Ernest Cline’s homage to the 80’s looks, for lack of a better word, incredible. Packed with nostalgia and action, the trailer has become something of an Easter egg hunt for eager fans. Ready Player One looks to be visually stunning and, on a personal level, has inspired me to buy the book to read before the film comes out. Ready Player One will be released on the 30th of March 2018.

Star Trek: Discovery

After JJ Abrams breathed new life into the Star Trek franchise, the trailer for Star Trek: Discovery follows a new crew as they explore the galaxy. The show may have been plagued with production issues but the screening of the trailer went along way to building anticipation for this new journey. Star Trek: Discovery is going to be aired from the 24th of September 2017.

Westworld, Season 2

Even though season 2 of Westworld wont be available till sometime in 2018, the makers teased some of the upcoming events we can look forward to. Following the end of season 1, the robotic uprising is in full swing with humans running scared.

Kingsman: The Goldern Circle

The trailer for Kingsman: The Goldern Circle showcased Matthew Vaughn’s up coming spy action film. Jam packed with action scenes, witty dialogue and a sense of humor, Kingsman: The Golden Circle is scheduled for release on the 22nd of September 2017.

Pacific Rim Uprising

Following on from 2013’s surprise hit, Pacific Rim Uprising follows the action 10 years after the original. As the Kaiju threat looks to rise again, new recruits are brought in to man the giant robots of the Jaeger program. Pacific Rim Uprising stars John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny and sees Charlie Day, Rinko Kikuchi, Burn Gorman return.  All being well, the film will be released on the 23rd of February 2018.

Netflix didnt only use Comic-Con 2017 to showcase Stranger Things, season 2. The entertainment giant also screened a trailer for their upcoming Sci-Fi movie Bright. Bright, starring Will Smith, will be Netflix’s most expensive original film to date. The trailer shows that Netflix can compete with the established film studios when it comes to big budget movies. Netflix describe the film as, “In an alternate present-day where magical creatures live among us, two L.A. cops become embroiled in a prophesied turf battle.” Bright is going to be available to stream on Netflix in December 2017.
