The unique ways Papa John’s came up with new relevant content to advertise on football Sunday’s was synonymous with the NFL for years. It has been reported that the pizza mogul and the NFL have mutually decided it was best to part ways though. It has been widely believed that the comments Papa John himself made about players kneeling for the National Anthem led to this.
I’m one that loved the way their advertisements implemented today’s NFL stars and all-time greats to promote the league and their pizza. Papa John’s also delved deep into the people behind the game. Numerous ads played on Gameday that shined a light on those behind the scenes of the NFL that may have lacked the limelight otherwise.
Almost simultaneously, Pizza Hut was named as the new official pizza sponsor of the National Football League. Some of the details of the deal were reported. Notably the agreement will span four years where the Hut will have to pay more for the opportunity than the NFL asked for from Papa John’s.
Many saw the split coming over the past year where it seemed politics made more of a statement in the NFL than any other previous season. The action took over the calendar year effected more than the game evidently. Roger Goodell made a statement saying, “With a focus on family, friends and fun, Pizza Hut has the creativity we are looking for in a partner…”.
