Carrie Fisher passes away

The iconic actress passed away at the age of 60 following a heart attack. She initially suffered the episode on a flight from London to Los Angeles where she was rushed to hospital and put into intensive care. She unfortunately succumbed four days later.

Carrie Fisher is best known for her role in Star Wars as Princess Leia. She was also an accomplished writer, producer, script doctor, humourist and an outspoken mental health advocate.

Debbie Reynolds passes away

Following the death of her daughter Carrie Fisher, actress Debbie Reynolds passed away at the age of 84. The actress, best known for her role in the 1952 movie Singin’ in the rain, succumbed to a stroke one day after the death of her daughter.

Cheetah numbers

A recent study has concluded that cheetahs are now in danger of becoming extinct. The study indicated that this is due to habitat loss, the animals wondering outside of protected areas and the illegal trade of trafficked cheetah cubs.

Russian ambassador death

Andrei Karlov, a Russian ambassador to Turkey was shot and killed as he was speaking at an art exhibition in Ankara. The gunman, Mevlut Mert Altintas, fatally shot Karlov in front of spectators and the press.

Altintas was a police officer who used his credentials to gain access to the room Karlov was speaking in. It is reported that he shouted “Allahu akbar! Do not forget Aleppo” during the attack. He was reportedly killed by authorities.

Ikea wrongful death settlement

Swedish furniture company, Ikea, has agreed to pay $50 million in a wrongful death settlement. The company is due to pay the money to the families of three American families whose toddlers died after dressers toppled onto them.

The brand has since recalled the dressers and said it will make charitable donations in the children’s names.
