George Michael passes away

Pop superstar George Michael passed away on Christmas Day 2016. The star’s manager said the cause was most likely a heart attack. George Michael’s partner, Fadi Fawaz tweeted; “Its a xmas I will never forget finding your partner dead peacefully in bed first thing in the morning. I will never stop missing you.” My Fawaz also described George Michael as a ‘beautiful person’.

Even though George Michael had a reputation for self indulgence, it has emerged that had been secretly giving million of pounds to charities involved in helping children, cancer victims and AIDS sufferers.

George Michael was 53 when he passed away. His musical career spanned over 35 years and in that time, he sold over 100 million albums.

Earthquake in Chile

Thousands were evacuated as a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck the Chilean coast. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii issues several tsunami warnings around the area but as time passed, these were lifted. During the warnings, around 4,000 were told to leave coastal towns fearing large waves.

Luckily the earthquake didn’t directly cause any fatalities and the damage is purely structural and financial. Due to its geographical location, Chile has a history of earthquakes with an 8.8 magnitude quake in 2010 and an 8.3 tremor last year.

Russian plane crash

A terror attack has not been ruled out as a Russian Military plane crashed, killing all 92 onboard. Russian minister, Maxim Sokolov said that an ‘entire spectrum’ of causes were being considered and that it was premature to speculate.

Included in the casualties were the 64 members of the famed Russian military choir and dance band, the Alexandrov Ensemble. The ensemble, also known as the Red Army Choir, was heading to Syria to give a concert a Russian airbase.

Status Quo guitarist, Rick Parfitt, passes away

Status Quo performing songs from their new album ‘Heavy Traffic’ aboard HMS Ark Royal in Portsmouth Docks.

The rocker passed away in a hospital aged 68 after suffering a severe infection. He has been taken to hospital in Marbella on Thursday after complications with a shoulder injury.

Rick Parfitt had a musical career that spanned for over 52 years and sold hundreds of thousands of albums.
