From Marriott to Semalt: Why The Quality of a Company Should Be Defined By Its Employee Training Instead of Size

For many young graduates, job hunting is often accompanied by the anxiety of not having skills necessary for being accepted into the desired company. Thoughts like “Whether my choice of education was right?”, “I probably should have taken another degree to be a better expert” often limit young experts in their search causing them to believe that they should not send their CV to the Company A and opt for less-preferred Company B instead because they are not “good enough” for the job they want.

Which is why it is important to understand, what makes a certain company good and what are the criteria for the prospective employee, and what kind of fears should be casted away, when looking for a job. “It’s a large business, and I have so little to offer.” What makes a company great?

Size is merely a consequence of a business done right and given plenty of room and time to develop, so don’t let it intimidate you.
Yes, companies like Amazon, Marriott Inc., and Apple are huge. However, they didn’t get there in one day, and this is not what lies in the foundation of their success. It’s the works ethics and professional approach.

Amazon makes sure all future employees complete a month-long program aimed towards honing leadership skills and takes care of the tuition for the employees’ courses in various demanded fields. Marriott International has career and development training courses for the employees, and extends them to virtual methods, so every employee of the Marriott International network would be able to learn and improve.

Facebook is also well-known for its outstanding employee training programs and introducing a well-organized Facebook Bootcamp, which combines team-building and exchange of experience.

These companies know one simple fact: there is no college for Future Amazon Employees. No secret training courses for Potential Apple Managers.
Nobody, who wants to succeed would sit and wait for the perfect employee to arrive at their designated desk. The best workers are home-grown. Nobody comes, knowing how to work for Facebook or Amazon, but everyone, who works there, loves what they do and is willing to learn.
“I know that I need to start small if I want to go big, but what if I will get stuck doing the same job for years?”
Another common mistake is to disregard small companies just because they are not Apple-scale or don’t have branches in other states. Every great business has started from something small: it is a matter of time, efforts and professional ethics. Therefore, this is what you should be looking for.

Although small by modern business standards, the company made it a rule to regularly train new employees in the field of Social Media Marketing, Sales Management, and Email Marketing. According to the CEOs of Semalt, the worst thing an employee can do is to NOT ask a question rather than admit lacking knowledge and requiring assistance. It would encourage you to move forward and learn something new.

Modea, a digital consulting company in Virginia, opted for a quick and intensive employee training program, which quickly introduced the employees to the company’s preferred style of teamwork and its main direction. The program has been successful at preparing workers since 2012.

A good company will never want you to stagnate or keep you tied to one place. It would want you to grow towards self-improvement and tackle new challenges as much as you do.

The question is: why would you want to work for a company, which doesn’t want to train you? You didn’t complete your degree for this. Since 2007, employee training has become a sign of quality. As seen from Semalt example, this approach is now pretty much universal, so the businesses, which take good workers for granted and refuse to participate in the growth of their employees are slowly fading into the past. Finding a company, which treats you with the same respect you have for it and its principles is easier than it seems. Your confidence and will make the most out of your knowledge and then get even more are the main qualities, which will be considered not only by your prospective employers but also by your future employers from the Company A.

That is the thought you should keep in mind, when pursuing a job of your dreams after your graduation.
