Let’s name some very Christmassy things. Christmas Trees. Presents. Turkeys. Roast chestnuts. Christmas movies like Home Alone. Competition for the number 1 song. The John Lewis Christmas advert. Well, one of them has finally arrived. Stoked in anticipation, the John Lewis Christmas advert is a yearly highlight. When most adverts are fast forwarded over (if you have a recorder like Sky Plus) or have the channel changed on them, people can’t wait for John Lewis’ yearly creation.
The John Lewis Christmas Advert 2016
This year, it’s a dog’s life for John Lewis as the main star of their advert is Buster the dog. A cute boxer who wants nothing more than to join the other animals and jump on his owners new trampoline. Not as much of a tear jerker as 2015’s advert, Buster the dog tries to draw out empathetic tears with his expressive face but the overall advert comes across a bit more fun than sad.
The advert was shot entirely on a set that was made to look like a townhouse and cost £1m to make. John Lewis is spending a further £6m on TV ad slots that include the debut TV screening at 21:15 tonight (10th November 2016). The department store will also be selling plush versions of all the animals used in the advert as well as pyjamas, animal themed children’s books and of course trampolines. The retailer has also stated that 10% of all toy sales will go to the country’s Wildlife Trusts charities.
