At the beginning of this year, J Kas released his EP, ‘Dreamlife’, comprising of five tracks boasting a hazy presence of boom bap/hip-hop – well suited for those cosy winter nights indoors. Now fast forward to the warm season, the UK rapper has something up his sleeve that’s guaranteed to shake up your summer…
That something up his sleeve comes in the shape of his latest Mantra-produced track, ‘Vogue’, the first release from his forthcoming project, ‘Dreamlife Summer Jamz’. The three minute banger features the Sheffield wordsmith’s delivery effortlessly flowing with the upbeat chords, fused with tropical house and splashes of Afrobeats. The accompanied video sees the slick emcee bringing this club filler to the streets around Europe, showing footage of passer-bys getting down and dirty to the catchy hooks, working in harmony with the equally infectious bassline.
J Kas will be jet setting across Portugal next month, to engage with the natives for the production of his Summer Jamz project and also gets ready to give slamming headline performance at this year’s Elevate Young Minds Lisbon Festival. J Kas shows no signs of slowing anytime soon as he heads back to his hometown and gears up to give another lit performance at Tramlines Festival on 21st July.
A force to be reckoned with in the UK underground rap scene, J Kas’ summer-charged track ‘Dem Gyal Deh’, featuring Franz-Von, peaked at number 12 in BBC introducing Sheffield Top 50 Tracks of 2017. Encompassing a melt pot of genres, his impressive discography gets tongue wagging from BBC Radio One and BBC 1Xtra’s elite music tastemakers. Receiving airplay from DJ Ace and Tony Robinson, Huw Stevens named J.Kas as “one of his favourite rappers”, whereas Charlie Sloth hailed his football anthem-track, ‘C’mon England’ as “the song for The Three Lions”.
