Social media has become one of the integral parts behind the success of every modern business. It gives you exposure to new customers, helps you create leads, and, ultimately grows your company. However, the key to utilising social media to its full potential, isn’t just about growing your follower base, it’s about making sure they are engaged with your content. One of the best ways to do just that, is by hosting contests and giveaways, which will not only help you increase engagement, but it can also help you further grow your follower base as well. With that in mind, let’s look at the best ways you can use giveaways to increase engagement on social media.
Pick a goal
The first step you should take, should be to pick the ultimate goal you want to achieve with the giveaways. Do you just want to promote a new product, increase brand awareness, or, focus on converting more followers into potential leads? The approach you are going to take will largely depend on your answer to this question, and, it will give you a solid place to start.
Choose what you are going to giveaway
Once you settled on a goal you want to reach, it’s time to pick just what you will be giving away. This is the key part of the whole process, as you need to carefully consider what the prize will be. It needs to be something relevant to your business, but, at the same time, something that your followers would actually want to possess. So, in order to ensure you pick the best prize, it can be helpful to do some research and find out more about who your audience is. With that information you will be able to better tailor your giveaways towards them, making them more interesting, and, making sure people keep being engaged.
A key thing to keep in mind when picking a prize, is that in order to maximize the efficiency of the giveaway, you shouldn’t just straight out pick something that is super expensive just to draw more eyes. A great tactic you can employ is to host a few smaller giveaways for things such as promotional lanyards or t-shirts and then make a contest in which people are required to use these objects in pictures or videos and share them on social media in order to have a chance at the big prize. This will help your giveaway generate more traction, while, at the same time, boosting the amount of user-generated content for your brand and further increasing the amount of exposure created for your business.
Decide what platform to use
Deciding what the right platform to host your giveaways on is the next thing you will have to consider. There are many options to choose from; but, the ones you should be focusing on are the ones with the most traffic, such as: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. The one you decide on should take into account two main factors, where do you have the most followers and what the structure of your giveaway will be. So, for example, if you want a certain amount of involvement from your followers, choosing Instagram or Facebook is the way to go. On the other hand, if you just want people to do something simple, Twitter is the better option.
Something you can try, is to opt not to host the giveaway directly by yourself, but, to instead hire a social media influencer to do it for you. By doing this, you can take advantage of the huge amount of exposure people like YouTubers have and insure you reach as many people as possible.
Pick a winner
Once you’ve done all of that, it’s time to choose how a winner is going to be picked. While this will most likely be random for giveaways that require less follower involvement, if you decide to make use of having them more engaged in the giveaway, you need to make sure that it’s done as fairly and objectively as possible. This is important because it will guarantee that everyone is satisfied, and ensure the perception of integrity of any future giveaways you decide to have.
A few tips you should employ, to make sure everyone understands the rules, is to disclose beforehand how the winner is going to be chosen. Also, make sure to point out how the winner will be contacted and everything they will be required to do, so that they can receive their prize.
Hosting social media giveaways is a great way to both increase the engagement your followers have with your brand, and, to further grow and increase your brand awareness. The key to achieving this, is through coming up with original ideas, and keeping things as interesting as possible. However, in order to maximize the benefits you’re getting, try not to host them too often, as this will decrease the amount of buzz they generate over time. With that in mind, the only way to start seeing results, is to start doing it yourself.
