Have you ever been offered a cocktail based on a fragrance? No? If this sounds like something you’d love, head over to Green Bar at Hotel Café Royal where their expert mixologists will conjure up cocktails based on a selection of Givenchy fragrances.
What is it
Having started in August 2016, Green Bar has launched a cocktail experience that is designed to stimulate your taste buds while being based on fragrances by Parfums Givinchy. The menu is a celebration of L’Atelier de Givenchy, in particular the latest addition to the collection – Iris.
The brainchild of bar manager Derren King, these cocktails are not to be missed. King’s objective was to carefully reflect and emulate the diverse range of scents that comprise the Parfums Givenchy collection.
I was recently lucky enough to experience the cocktails and have a chat with Derren himself. He is an expert at his craft and Green Bar is lucky to have a talent like him on their staff. While looking through the menu, he approached and asked what my preference in a drink would be? Tall or short? Sweet or sour? After giving my selection, he returned with creation that was part drink part work of art. Derren then proceeded to bring a tray of perfumes and explained which one my drink was based on. The experience was fantastic and I will happily be going back again soon.
Green Bar and Hotel Café Royal
An established icon within London’s social scene, Café Royal has been host to famed patrons from royalty to celebrities. Perfectly positions by Piccadilly Circus Underground station, Oxford Street, Soho and Mayfair, the hotel provides an unbeatable location if you want to stay in a luxurious and upmarket setting. Both the Hotel Café Royal and Green Bar embody the epitome of opulence.
Each cocktail may be priced at £13 but the price tag is not too far above average London prices and completely merits the experience. The drinks were fantastic and in keeping with Green Bar’s history of using botanicals in their drinks, the garnishes were the perfect finishing touches.
This cocktail experience is one for your senses to enjoy. If you go, be sure to ask for the perfumes kept behind the bar to compare with your cocktail. Question the mixologist! Their detailed insights into these creations are as fascinating as the drinks themselves.
