Head to the north-east tip of the Yucatan Peninsula and there you’ll find paradise. It’s called the Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach Resort & Spa. And it’s all the proof you need that Cancun is still absolutely stunning and still safe. With its delightful labyrinth of beach-side pools, cascading waterfalls, and palapas (outfitted with swim-up bars/restaurants), the Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach truly is a heaven on Earth, and a place you’ll want to enjoy. So without further delay, come along with Destination Dan and indulge in magnificent Mexico!
Perhaps the most immediately noticeable feature of the Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach is its dizzying array of pools, which themselves are immediately adjacent to a gorgeous white sand beach, which in turn is immediately adjacent to the sparkling turquoise waters that surround Cancun’s Hotel Zone. And all of this is dotted by a mosaic of palm trees, day beds and loungers. Relax at any of these pools and you’ll be treated to the soothing sounds of rushing water from a collection of nearby man-made waterfalls which only adds to the exquisite landscaping and the air of tranquility. It looks just like a postcard, and it feels just like a dream.
Here’s a tip: Float into any of the swim up bars and order the shrimp tacos with guacamole and refried beans. You won’t regret it!
BEACH & WATERSPORTS
Of course the pools aren’t the only water attraction at this Utopian resort. Try a Banana Boat ride, parasailing or paddle boarding. Or grab a jet ski and experience the thrill of zooming across crystal waters and jumping waves at top speed. At 60 USD for 30 minutes it’s actually well worth it! But hey, no one will fault you if you’d rather just flop on the floating dock to catch some rays or shuffle your feet through the fine powdery sand that lines the shore.
TRUE BEAUTY LIES WITHIN
Some people say it’s what’s inside that really counts, and here again the Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach does not disappoint, with beautifully adorned rooms, balconies, a club lounge and more. When you first walk in your are immediately struck by a gorgeous tiered and vine-covered atrium pointing up towards a large and festive stained glass ceiling. A pleasing and tasteful decor surrounds you.
The food at the resort certainly doesn’t disappoint either. The Isla Contoy restaurant offers an opportunity to take in a delicious sunset or candlelit dinner as the waves roll in below you. On Sundays there is even an offering of unlimited seafood. Meanwhile, Vina Del Mar sports one of the top breakfast buffets we have ever seen worldwide. A seemingly endless bevy of American and Mexican dishes, complete with a juicing station, an omelette station, and mini quesadillas made to order from freshly-pressed tortillas. It’s enough to make your head spin (in a good way). And don’t forget to seek out Loyda. She may just be the friendliest, sweetest staff member you’ll ever meet at any resort anywhere, and she will instantly brighten your day and make you feel pampered, all while insisting that “it’s a pleasure”.
You can sit either inside or outside. Oh, and did we mention? You sure can’t beat the view from the breakfast!
But the Crown Jewel (pun intended!) of the Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach has to be the Gem Spa and it’s AMAZING 10-Step Hydrotherapy Ritual. Believe us, YOU WILL FEEL SPOILED!
Upon entering the Gem Spa, the elegant ambiance immediately transports you to a place and state of calm and well being. Get undressed and then embark on an epic journey of relaxation and hydrotherapy unparalleled in Cancun, or for that matter anywhere in Latin America.
You begin with an aromatherapy steam room, followed by a vigorous shower, clay steam room, ice room, sauna, rain shower, Jacuzzi, polar pool and foot bath. Finally, the journey concludes in the enormous Sensations Pool, which uses mood lighting, endless bubbles and fountains of varying intensity to love and lull your body into a state of bliss. There’s even an amazing view of the Nichupte Lagoon. When you’re done, you may just want to take a nap! It’s an incredibly effective and professional treatment that is well done in every way. And not one you’re likely to forget anytime soon!
OTHER NEARBY ATTRACTIONS AND SAFETY
Not too far from the Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach you’ll still find plenty of bars, clubs (including the famous Coco Bongo and Senor Frogs) and other attractions (adventure and otherwise). Cancun is still vibrant and full of fun! And full of delicious restaurants too! Want to dine with a Mariachi band? One of our favorites is still Hacienda El Mortero with is classic Old World vibe and great food.
Want incredible seafood? Then head to the famous Lorenzillo’s Lobster House.
If you listen to the news or read the papers lately, some have pointed to an occasional incident here and there and questioned whether Cancun is still safe to visit and vacation. So is it safe? Well, as of Spring 2018, WE CERTAINLY THINK SO! At no time during our most recent visit did we ever feel that our safety was in any way compromised. Not even a hint of feeling endangered in any way whatsoever.
Destination Dan is based in New York City. But as wonderful as we think the Big Apple is, it’s unfortunately a fact that murders take place in our city almost every week, some of them gruesome. But last we checked, people haven’t stopped visiting New York City in droves. And they shouldn’t stop visiting Cancun either! It’s beautiful, it’s still one of the easiest tropical destinations to get to for East Coasters and Europeans alike, and yes… it is STILL safe! As with anywhere, just be vigilant, especially at night. Try to take tours with reputable companies. And try to pick up taxis from hotels and restaurants when possible.
We hope you enjoyed our review of the luxurious Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach!
