After sharing my last update on Facebook, someone left me the following comment, “Hi Lara. I’ve read all your blogs and must admit that aside from hopefully feeling a sense of achievement at the end, I’m struggling to find anything positive in what you’re enduring. It sounds like torture and not seems to be having a detrimental effect on your wellbeing. It’s a very interesting read to understand what is needed and how you are finding the experience. ” I felt I wanted to post a second article this week outlining the positives of what I am currently undertaking
At this moment in time, I have never been had more definition on my body. In fact, I actually have a slight abdominal V shape, striations on my shoulders and very toned legs. Currently, I am at the lowest body fat percentage I have ever been. Even when I was training as a personal trainer in 2013, I got upset because my BF was 29%. I am now 20% and still cutting as we speak.
I have historically suffered from a bloated stomach due to various intolerances. However, this diet is so clean and full of wholefoods with no salt, sugar or sauces that I have not had any bloating. Even before my calories were reduced drastically I was full of energy on the food I was eating.
After undertaking this fitness regime, I now sleep really well. Like most people, I get up in the night a lot but that is because of the volume of water I am drinking. It has nothing to do with my sleep which is heavy and sound. Also, since undertaking the fitness plans, my strength has increased so much and I am lifting the heaviest I have in the gym. To top it off, my technique and form have improved.
Due to all the water I am drinking, my skin is now very clear. I can also actually taste and appreciate food now. I started off needing to have spices and such added to my meat, carbs & veg but now I eat without needing anything apart from maybe some pepper.
Food and Drink
From the restricted diet, I do actually feel hungry. But, who else really ever feels hungry anymore with the amount of food we have surrounded by us? I appreciate and understand food to be fuel, savouring every morsel and tasting every bite.My mindset towards food has changed since the start. I had to see and understand food as being fuel rather than a tasty indulgence so I would be able to get through the 3 months of preparation. A final thing to add about food is that I have learnt so much about portion control. People, in general, have portions that are way to big for what the body actually needs.
It has been 3 months since I last had alcohol and I can honestly say I dont miss it. I dont suffer from heavy headed mornings and sleepless nights and feel better because of it.
My passion for exercise has gone through the roof and I have learnt new techniques, moves, workouts and really enjoy the sessions. If you are not enjoying a certain exercise then I would recommend changing it to something you do like, that way you will stick with it.
Though out this journey, I have made new friends; passionate, determined and thirsty for challenges who give off great energy and are a pleasure to be around.
This fitness training and preparation needed has made me appreciate and understand this new sport. Soon, I will be able to say that I have competed as an athlete. Even if I don’t make the cut on competition day, I have learnt so much along the way. Moving forward, I will go on to learn more. In conclusion, I have a new found respect and love for this industry!
