The First Purge has just been released on Digital and Home Video and it is one of a few films that are part of The Purge franchise. One of the cast members of The First Purge is Y’lan Noel who plays Dmitri in that movie and, in an interview with Collider, he had the chance to talk about The Purge franchise.

The Purge Franchise

This is what Y’lan Noel had to say on what moments on set made him feel that he was truly part of a Purge film:

As soon as they start filling random areas with smoke and filling the street with smoke, and then they do this thing where they wet the roads to help the road pop on camera, and then they set the trash can on fire, that obviously helped me paint a picture.”

We shot in Buffalo, which is the perfect background for a horror movie. No disrespect to Buffalo, but it was just so eerie. There was never anybody outside. We were shooting at night, but there were just tumbleweeds.”

I don’t even know if it was a psychological thing, but I felt like I saw tumbleweeds, all the time. It was a perfect background for a Purge film. People start putting the masks on, and then you’re like, ‘Okay, it’s time to go.’”

His Career

Y’lan Noel also gave some insight into what his next for his career:

I just want to continue to do polar opposite type of work. I just want to continue to do things that are unexpected and dynamic, with good stories behind them. What drives me is character driven material. Dmitri is a role that is extremely opposite of who I am.”

That role required a large level of preparation, and I really enjoyed that process. I want to do more roles that require a large level of preparation and that are completely different from who I am. That’s the type of thing that I hope to sign up for.”
