While I liked Call Me By Your Name, I did not love it. However, you cannot deny how much of a smash hit the film has been from a critical standpoint. A lot of film critics, pundits and fans adore Call Me By Your Name. Additionally, the film has already received a lot of award nominations and it is bound to get more recognition at the 2018 Oscars.
Still, I have heard little when it comes to possible sequels. However, in an interview with Collider, Luca Guadagnino, who directed the film, spoke about whether sequels could happen as well as discussing the film in general. Here is what Guadagnino had to say on sequels to Call My By Your Name:
“I believe that I will end up making a cycle of films about these characters because I love them so much. And I think their experience of life is ripe for many, many adventures […] I think the next chapter it will be happening right after the fall of Berlin wall and that great shift that was the end of Russia, of the USSR, sorry. And we’ll see people leaving home and going in the world. That’s what I can say for now”.
Surprising But Good News
For me, these statements by Guadagnino came as a surprise. I never thought Call Me By Your Name was a film that needed to have a sequel. It came across as a one-time story. For me, the story in that film ended well and I assumed that we would not see a continuation of that story. However, I do not doubt that a passionate audience exists who would love sequels to Call Me By Your Name. That is why I am glad that a sequel could happen. I want sequels to happen for those who loved Call Me By Your Name.
As I said, I liked Call Me By Your Name but did not love it. Still, the film really connected with a lot of people. If a sequel is made, then I will be happy for the fans and see it for myself because I liked the original. Moreover, I know enough people loved the original that they will passionately support a sequel. However, it is unlikely that we will get a sequel to Call Me By Your Name very soon. I would imagine that a release date of 2020 would be the earliest we would see a sequel. But, I could be wrong. We will have to see how this situation develops in the future.
