The Transformers film franchise spearheaded by Michael Bay has been a financial success and a critical disaster. Indeed, every movie that came out after the first Transformers film in 2007 has been panned by the majority of film critics.
Still, if Bumblebee, the Transformers spin-off, turns out to be good movie and a major improvement over what has come before then it could turn out to be the soft reboot this franchise needs. One of the cast members of Bumblebee is Love, Simon star Jorge Lendeborg Jr. and, in an interview with Collider, he had the chance to talk about the film.
One of the things that Jorge Lendeborg Jr. spoke about was the difference between Bumblebee, which was directed by Travis Knight, and a typical Transformers film directed by Michael Bay:
“Shout out to Michael Bay. Travis Knight helming this thing makes it a whole different thing. Coming from Kubo and the Two Strings and Coraline, his animation background, the way he makes Bumblebee move feels so organic versus the Michael Bay ones, which focus more on the extravagance, the entertainment and popcorn of it all which is also awesome and I feel like there’s a lot of that in this story, but I just feel like Travis really brings the heart and it’s a really emotional story.”
Jorde Lendeborg Jr. also discussed the chance of him being in more Transformers movies being made after Bumblebee:
“I hope so!! If they would have me back, I would love to be back. If the story takes it into a different direction, I’ll be happy about it also. Regardless, I think people will want to see more of these.”
