From a financial and critical perspective, Justice League was a huge disappointment. Indeed, what was meant to be DC’s equivalent to The Avengers did not even make $700 million, let alone $1 billion, at the worldwide box office. This was such a shame when you consider how great the cast looked on paper. Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Ezra Miller and Gal Gadot amongst many others formed a talented cast which, for me, were not used to their fullest potential in the film. Indeed, an actor as great as J. K. Simmons was, in my eyes, pretty much wasted in the role of Commissioner Gordon.
J. K. Simmons
Now, in an interview with Collider, J. K. Simmons has discussed his role in Justice League and whether we will see him in future DCEU films. Here is what he had to say on the matter:
“I was barely involved in the movie, period. And then, that even got cut. I only worked with Zack [Snyder]. Because I don’t really pay attention to show business, outside of my own thing, I was unaware of most of that. I didn’t even know until somebody in the press told me about the re-shoots. And I have no idea what to expect, going forward.”
“Assuming that we’re gonna go forward, the way we think it will, I’m really looking forward to that. Hopefully, it will be really fun and the character will expand a little bit, particularly in the stand-alone Batman movie. There will be more to do. I guess it’s Matt Reeves now for that one, who I haven’t met. So, it will be a whole new collaborator to get together and work with, hopefully.”
If Warner Bros. are not going to reboot the DCEU, then I at least hope that cast members such as J. K. Simmons will be used in a larger capacity going forward. However, everything with this franchise is so uncertain and unpredictable at this time that it is difficult to predict what is going to happen with any real confidence.
