A good amount of news about the upcoming X-Men films has come out recently. Indeed, we recently learnt that Gore Verbinski is no longer the director of Gambit. This continues the painfully turbulent pre-production problems this film has had. Channing Tatum is still in place to star in the lead role of that film. However, it would not surprise me if that changes. Still, we do know that some X-Men universe films will be released in the near future. But, Fox has decided to change the slate of these films.
Deadpool 2, The New Mutants and Gambit
The release dates for Deadpool 2, The New Mutants and Gambit have, for better or worse, all changed. We should start with Deadpool 2. The sequel to the highly successful Deadpool was set for a United States release of 1st June 2018. Now, Deadpool 2 had been moved up to 18th May 2018. This puts the film a week ahead of the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story. However, that may not be the case indefinitely. Certainly, it is getting more and more likely that Solo will get a new release date.
The New Mutants will now be released in the United States ten months later than previously intended. The film has moved from 13th April 2018 to 22nd February 2019. This news will be extremely disappointing for fans who were really looking forward to the film. Indeed, the film looked very different from your standard superhero film due to the horror elements it showcased. Perhaps the new release date implies that the film needs more work on it. Hopefully, the decision taken with The New Mutants means that it can become as good as possible. It certainly has more time to be improved.
Then, we have the aforementioned Gambit. Before losing Gore Verbinski as director, the film had already lost two directors in Doug Lyman and Rupert Wyatt. Consequently, production on the film kept getting pushed back. Now, Gambit has been moved from a United States release of 14th February 2019 to 7th June 2019. It would not surprise me if the date changes again for this film. Gambit may not even get made which would also not come as a shock.
