We are days away from the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. It only seems like yesterday that we were in the same situation with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Anticipation for that film was extremely high and the same can be said for its sequel. Clearly, I would not blame any Star Wars fan for being incredibly jealous of those fortunate enough to attend the world premiere.
I can speak for myself and say that I was envious but happy for those who attended the premiere. I can only imagine how wonderful that experience must have been. Still, the world premiere of Star Wars: The Last Jedi has come and gone but a review embargo is in place until Tuesday 12th December. However, those who attended the premiere and saw the film were allowed to post their responses on social media.
The first responses for Star Wars: The Last Jedi are in. Safe to say, the response to the film has been overwhelmingly positive and full of praise for Rian Johnson. While lacking the detail of full reviews, we get an indication of how brilliant people think the film is from these tweets:
#TheLastJedi is absolutely fantastic – gripping, touching, funny and powerful w/ gorgeous shots and the most badass battles. When it gets going, holy crap does it get going. Hands down the best #StarWars movie since Empire pic.twitter.com/nWWAhlNMJo

#StarWarsTheLastJedi floored me. @rianjohnson and the team nail so much – thrills, laughs, heart and most of all, pushing the characters/overall franchise a major step forward. Some really rich material to explore in the future. Can't wait for more.

"Do. Or do not. There is no try." Bravo, @RianJohnson. You did that! The last 40 minutes had me on the edge of my seat in every moment. Superb storytelling. Exceptional design. I laughed. I cheered. A total joy-ride through the galaxy. So fun. #StarWars pic.twitter.com/u4h4XsdzZA

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is everything. Intense, funny, emotional, exciting. It’s jam-packed with absolutely jaw dropping moments and I loved it so, so much. I’m still shaking. pic.twitter.com/fHddWjo201

I am STUNNED by #StarWars #TheLastJedi. I gasped, I laughed, I screamed, I cried and I had the time of my life. Rian Johnson pulled it off, making what might be the best Star Wars movie ever. pic.twitter.com/0VE5M90dsH

#StarWarsTheLastJedi is NOT a remake of Empire. Rian Johnson knows you’re thinking it will be and uses that to absolutely SHATTER your expectations. We were SCREAMING at the craziness of it all. As Luke says in the trailer, “This is not going to end the way you think.” pic.twitter.com/2xTAuesIOy

Holy wow. I’m stunned at @starwars #TheLastJedi. An adventure as epic & sweeping as all the other films combined, with laughs, tears, and moments that will make your head pop off. I CARED about this movie. What a great feeling.

These are just a few of the glowing responses to the film. As you can see, the reaction to Star Wars: The Last Jedi could not be much better. I have tried my very best to keep my expectations grounded for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Truly, I never expect any new Star Wars films to reach the brilliance of the films in the Original Trilogy. To me, those films are as close to perfect as you can get in their original form.
If Star Wars: The Last Jedi is equal to or better than Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, then I will be very happy. From my original expectations and the positive reaction that the film has received, I feel confident that Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be, at the very least, good. I will find out for myself what the film is like very soon. As I said, we are just days away from its release. Still, although we are so close, every hour feels like a week! Obviously, I cannot wait to see what is in store.
