Since Mission: Impossible 3, I would contest that the Mission: Impossible franchise has got progressively better with each subsequent film. Mission: Impossible 3 was good, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol was very good and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation was great. They are very entertaining action films and I am hoping that Mission: Impossible 6 will continue that trend. The film is slated for a release in July 2018 and we now know its official title.
Mission: Impossible – Fallout
On Instagram, Tom Cruise revealed a new image and the official title for Mission: Impossible 6. The title is Mission: Impossible – Fallout. Christopher McQuarrie, writer and director of Fallout, has, in an interview with Empire, shed some light on why this is the title for the film. Here is what he had to say:
“The title has multiple meanings in the film, from the literal to the figurative. There is the threat of nuclear terrorism hanging over the movie, which is the literal threat. There’s the notion that what’s happened in the movie is the end result of choices that Ethan Hunt has made in his life. It’s Ethan’s past come back to haunt him. It’s the fallout of all his good intentions”.
“The one thing that came out of it was I thought it should be a one-word title. This is a different kind of movie, it should be expressing a different attitude. It should be striking its own ground, and that’s what I felt Fallout did”.
When you look at McQuarrie’s comments, the reasoning to title the film Fallout makes a lot of sense. Moreover, the brief mention of what the plot entails sounds quite intriguing. Indeed, the double meaning behind the title when it comes to the plot of the film could suggest that we will get a story which has a lot of depth.
From both a wider perspective with the threat of nuclear war and a character viewpoint with Ethan Hunt, Mission Impossible – Fallout could be the most nuanced and compelling film so far in this franchise. I would expect a trailer for Fallout to be released very soon, perhaps within the coming weeks. Regardless of when the trailer comes out, I am hopeful that it will increase my anticipation for this film.
