“Everybody say love!” These are the immortal words by the one and only RuPaul Charles. If you don’t know who Ru is by now, you will by the end of this article. RuPaul has taken over the planet as a beautiful “Supermodel of the World”, but should we be paying even more attention to Mama Ru? I think so.
I have been an avid viewer of her show, RuPaul’s Drag Race, since season one. One of the things RuPaul says at the end of every single episode is that “If you can’t love yourself, then how the hell are you gonna love somebody else?” and it speaks volumes about his character. Rupaul is a drag queen, THE drag queen, but he is so much more. Ru is a role model to those people that are on the outskirts of society and he gladly takes up the role as “Mama Ru.”
During her podcast, “What’s the Tee?” with gal pal and co-host Michelle Visage, Ru talks about his drive and love for work. RuPaul Charles is one of the hardest working celebrities in show business, but doesn’t get enough credit. Ru is constantly going in show business, but stays professional, kind, and understanding. The love that radiates from Mama Ru is what draws people to her, but she has said on more than one occasion that she may never be main stream and, in my opinion, that’s a shame.
RuPaul is a fierce role model to look up to. She always tells her girls that she wants to see more, for them to be more, because they have the potential to be. Adults and children alike can learn to empower and love themselves through the kind words of wisdom from Rupaul. She deserves to be more than just “Supermodel of the World”. She also needs to be titled as Role Model of the World.
