Benefits Of Cooking With Essential Oils

  • Cooking with essential oils adds a unique, intense flavor to your food. These oils are pure, concentrated flavor— so a little goes a long way.
  • Essential oils have some amazing health benefits. All Young Living oils (which is the only brand I will confidently recommend) are pure and natural, meaning there is nothing synthetic, artificial, or diluted in alcohol.
    • Essential oils help to support natural health and wellness and these therapeutic-grade oils are free from pesticides or other potentially harmful additives.
  • It is actually cost-effective!
    • Using quality essential oils is not as cheap as buying those bottles you see everywhere on Amazon but Young Living oils are actually quite affordable when you break down the cost. Cheaper essential oils can have additives and are not as pure as they may claim to be. If you are going to be breathing these oils into your lungs and injesting them into your body… don’t you want it to be a quality product?! Image result for uh duh gif
    • Citrus oils (lemon, orange, grapefruit, etc.) only cost around 5-6 cents per drop and 1 drop equals about a tsp. of zest (seriously, you do not need more than one drop or it is going to be too much)
    • The herb oils (basil, oregano, etc.) only cost around 6-12 cents per drop and the oils are so concentrated that is recommended that you do not even start out with a drop and simply dip a toothpick into the oil to grab some of the flavor (taste test as you add more.
    • Buying fresh herbs and citrus fruits at the grocery store can be hard because certain ones are seasonal and they go bad quickly so you feel like you have to rush to use them or just go buy more. Image result for true gif
  • Essential oils provide a fresh taste in your food all year long without having to keep those specific fruits and herbs around to season your food. The essential oils will last indefinitely (literally won’t ever spoil) as long as they are kept in a cool, dark place.
  • Because you don’t have to buy fresh herbs and citruses, you will spend less time chopping and grating while prepping meals int he kitchen, which is super convenient.

Tips For Cooking With Essential Oils

  1. Know what part of the plant the essential oil comes from. For example, citrus oils are pressed from the peel, so it can substitute for the zest but not the juice.Image result for lemon gif
  2. Getting the exact number of drops you want to fall into a bowl is not going to be easy and one additional drop could mean a lot of unnecessary flavor. To ensure that you get the desired amount of oil, drop onto a spoon beforehand instead of directly into your mixture. Image result for droplets gif
  3. Don’t underestimate the strength of these little drops of oil. You can ALWAYS add more but you can’t take flavor out that you’ve already added in so it is best to start with one drop at a time, taste testing along the way, and adding more as you see fit.  Image result for too much gif
  4. Avoid using plastic cooking wear when cooking with essential oils. The oils can damage certain types of plastic so working with glass and stainless steel is best. Image result for mixing gif
  5. You can store your oils in cool, dark place or even in the refrigerator but make sure to never expose them to heat, light, or humid conditions. Related image
  6. Make sure to screw the lids of your oils on tightly so that they do not evaporate out of the bottle. Image result for evaporation gif
  7. Essential oils are altered by heat and can evaporate, so it is best to add them in at the end of cooking if possible.Image result for making dinner gif
