As the fourth week of college football approaches, conversations about which teams are going to make the playoff is already underway.

According to the AP rankings, there are four games between ranked opponents. These match-ups look intriguing and a loss will dampen these teams’ playoff hopes.

ACC

The race for the playoff in the ACC is looking like a battle between Clemson and Louisville.
The Louisville cardinals are facing off against Marshall while the Clemson tigers defeated the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 26-7 last Thursday.

College Football

The match-up to watch this weekend in the ACC is the 13th ranked FSU at USF.

The highest ranked ACC team playing this weekend is the Florida state Seminoles (FSU). The Seminoles are coming off a devastating loss to a talented Louisville team and will look to take out their frustration on an undefeated South Florida Bulls (USF) team.

Big Ten

This is a race that is looking interesting with 4 teams ranked in the top 11. The highest ranked team, Ohio State Buckeyes are on a bye-week while the 4th ranked Michigan Wolverines open up conference play against Penn State Nittany Lions.

The match-up to watch is between the 13th ranked Wisconsin Badgers at 8th ranked MSU

The Michigan State Spartans (MSU) entertain the Wisconsin Badgers in what looks to be the one of the most exciting game of weekend. Both teams struggled at times last week against inferior oppositions. The Wisconsin Badgers had a close game last week against a win-less Georgia state Panthers. The Michigan State Spartans couldn’t pull away from their FCS foe Furman Paladins.

Big 12

The Big 12 seems to be having a down year. Currently there are 2 undefeated teams left and only 2 teams ranked in the top 25. Last years’ playoff candidate from the Big 12, the Oklahoma Sooners, are fading fast with 2 losses out of 3 games, while the Texas Longhorns lost a shootout against the California Golden Bears.

The Match-up to watch is between the Oklahoma State Cowboys at the 16th ranked Baylor Bears

The cowboys lost in dramatic fashion last week, with a last play Hail Mary and a lateral. This earnt the Cowboys their first loss of the season. The Baylor Bears haven’t faced much tough opposition so far this season. This game will prove to be the first test of their season and a win will help their Big 12 playoff hopes.

Pac 12

This year, the Pac 12 is as competitive as always. With 3 teams currently ranked, there is little margin for error for teams looking to make the playoffs. The highest ranked, Stanford Cardinals go to UCLA Bruins, while the 9th ranked Washington Huskies travel to Arizona to face off against the Wildcats.

The match-up to watch is the UCLA Bruins welcoming the 7th ranked Stanford Cardinals

The Cardinals are coming off a bye-week and have had ample time to prepare for this match-up. The Cardinals have arguably the best running back in college football, Christian McCaffery. The Bruins will be looking to upset the Cardinals if they hope to have any chance of making the playoffs.

SEC

This is the conference with the best team in college football, the No 1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. With 8 ranked teams in the top 25, 3 upcoming match-ups feature 6 of the ranked teams all facing each other.

The No 1 ranked Crimson Tide face off against the Kent State Golden Flashes and should have no issues dispatching them. The 23rd ranked Ole Miss rebels host 12th ranked Georgia Bulldogs. 19th ranked Florida Gators travel to the 14th ranked Tennessee Vols while the 10th ranked Texas A&M Aggies entertain the 17th ranked Arkansas Razorbacks.

The match-up to watch is 19th Florida at 14th Tennessee.

This game is a battle at the top of the SEC east. The winner will emerge as the front runner in the race for the SEC championship game. The Tennessee Vols haven’t beaten the Gators since 2004 with Florida winning the last 11 games. This looks to be the year the Vols end their losing streak.

All in all, it’s shaping up to be an excellent weekend of college football. Playoff dreams looks to be dashed for some teams while others are gearing up in hopes of making it.
