Have you heard of Bristly yet? Many dog owners might not know but periodontal disease is the near-silent ailment plaguing human’s best friend. Estimates suggest as many as 84% of dogs by the age of three suffer from it. If left untreated it can cause heart and lung diseases, systemic diseases of kidneys and the liver, diabetes complications, and even cancer.
Thus, oral health is of crucial for a dog’s overall well-being.
As any dog owner would know, brushing their pups’ teeth is a struggle. A US-based startup has come up with the idea of the 1st Do-It-Yourself brushing stick Bristly.
What is Bristly?
Created by Petros Dertsakyan, a pet owner who experienced first-hand the fatal consequence of unchecked canine periodontal disease, Bristly marks a change in the way we address and prevent oral health problems in our dogs.
Designed with their anatomy and behaviors in mind, the brushing stick enables daily removal of plaque and bacteria without the hard-won toothbrushing battle so familiar to many dog parents.
In spite of its design simplicity, Bristly is highly functional. Easy to hold paw pads allow dogs to use it themselves. The 2-sides of bristle lines clean your dogs’ teeth down to the gum line. Flavoured bristles promote chewing and the increase palatability of the stick. Side nudges are meant to provide extra brushing surface for an increased brushing effect. Bristly is equipped with a self-dispensing toothpaste reservoir to help dog owners with cleaning.
Due to its shape the stick is fun and attractive for dogs, making their daily oral hygiene a routine they look forward to.
Bristly is available in three sizes (depending on the size of your dog) and have a special heavy chewer version.
For now, the startup is getting funding on Kickstarter. Bristly is scheduled to started shipping at the start shipping in October. Get it here.
