It’s about time I wrote an article purely on the biggest thing that is missing from people’s diets and the greatest effect this can have on your health. Diets, pills, supplements, juices etc. are all quick fixes that wont necessarily give you the results you are looking for long term and they always have negative side effects. Now if you like quick fixes then water on the other hand, is actually a quick fix that will give you all amazing positive side effects, and more. Everyone I speak with and most of my clients who start with me are not consuming enough water and this is the first thing we action when we start working together.

A testimonial from one of my clients.

Miss E. Packer

“I use to only have about 50cl of water a day and struggled to get in anymore but since working with Lara I not only drink about 2 litres of water a day but I also crave more. I have so much energy now which I really didn’t think would be an affect. I also noticed that I have been going to the toilet roughly
once a day instead of my usual every 3 days or so”.

A study in 2014 stated that the majority of people drink just one glass of water each day, as opposed to the recommended eight glasses that we should be drinking [1]. The study also found that us Brits drink 12.4 billion glasses of tap water at home every year, compared to 29.4 billion cups of tea and 13.1 billion cups of coffee. Squash, juice and carbonated drinks also count for 16.4 billion glasses [1].

According to The European Food Safety Authority, women should drink roughly 1.6 litres of fluid each day and men should consume 2 litres [2]. Not only will water aid in your weight loss, research carried out by the NCBI [3] also show that consuming ~2 cups of water prior to each of your daily meals may increase weight loss as well. This strategy may aid in increasing fullness, thereby promoting a reduction in the food you eat.

I want to explain to you that water is the quickest way for you to lose weight, have more energy levels, sleep better, improve your concentration, and have clearer skin and sooooo much more. We are made up of over 70% water so not replenishing it will have a negative effect on our health and coffee, fizzy drinks and cordials, do not count.

Now because I am a gut health coach I am all about healing the gut to heal the rest of your body and ultimately improve overall well-being.

If you suffer with digestive discomfort, did you know that hydration is also the most effective way to improve gut health? The gut is a long slippery tube, and for good gut function you need to keep that slipperiness, which will happen if you are hydrated. But do not hydrate with sugary drinks – they simply feed less healthy gut bacteria in the bowel. I’m also careful of smoothies because of the amount of sugar in them. People generally purchase smoothies or juices full of sweet fruits rather than having more vegetables, which is a lot less sugar. In a healthy gut its fine, in moderation because sugar will still lead to weight gain, but if your digestion is taxed it can trigger problems.

So before you start looking at alternative ways to lose weight and boost your energy levels grab a glass of water first and just try it. Give it 7 days of increasing your water intake to a minimum of 1.5-2 litres and then see what you notice. I 100% guarantee the improvements will be amazing.
