Who is the best shooting guard in NBA history? With the upcoming NBA All-Star Game airing next week, some people may be asking themselves the very same question. What is a shooting guard? The main objective of the shooting guard (SG) is to put points up on the scoreboard. In addition to scoring points, some NBA teams ask their shooting guard to bring up the ball (dribble the ball) as well. Sometimes, these shooting guards are known as combo guards. Most shooting guards are good long-range shooters. They tend to average 35–40 percent from the three-point range.

Some of the NBA shooting guards on this list of the 50 best shooting guards in NBA history have put up more points in a single season than other shooting guards will hope to score in their whole career.
