Is a Nutribullet (or Magic Bullet) on your Christmas gifts wish list? If so, and if you are lucky enough to get one, why not impress your friends and family but making some non-alcoholic cocktail smoothies for them. The recipes below are easy to prepare and only take moments to make. Don’t worry if you don’t have the right glasses for each cocktail smoothie. That’s all for presentation and style. These cocktail smoothie recipes have been picked for their flavour. Naturally, if you didn’t have a Nutribullet, you could use any blender for these recipes.
Virgin margarita cocktail smoothie
The margarita is a cocktail usually made with triple sec, tequila and lime or lemon juice. The concept behind this cocktail smoothie recipe was to keep the flavours and bitterness to the original drink but without the alcohol. For this recipe, you will need: 1 1/3 cups of orange juice, 1 cup of lime juice, 2 to 3 tablespoons of agave syrup, 8 cups of crushed ice cubes, 2 limes cut into wedges, a 1/2 cup of coarse salt.
Place the orange juice, lime juice, agave syrup and ice in the Nutribullet’s cone shaped cup. Blend all these ingredients until smooth. Salt the rim of a glass. To do this, run a wedge of lime across the rim and dip into some salt to coat the edge. Once done, spoon the contents of the Nutribullet’s cup into the glass. For presentation, we would recommend using one of the following glasses: either a margarita glass, cocktail glass or champagne coupe.
Mango lime virgin margarita cocktail smoothie
This sweet twist on the margarita is for a bit of variation in case you wanted something a little different. For this recipe you will need: 1 large ripe mango, a 1/2 cup of freshly squeezed lime juice (shop bought will do as well), 1/4 of a cup of sugar, 3 tablespoons of orange juice, a 1/2 cup of water, 2 ice cubes, 2 lime slices.
Cube the mango and measure out about 1 1/4 cups. You can also buy these ready prepared from the liked of Tesco or Sainsbury’s. Fruit pots are an easy way to get most the fruit needed for smoothies ready cut. Place all the ingredients, except the lime slices, into the Nutribullet’s cup and blend until smooth. To present this drink properly, you can serve it in a rocks or stemmed glass and use the lime slice as a garnish on the top.
Frozen virgin Mary cocktail smoothie
The Blood Mary is a cocktail containing vodka, tomato juice and various combinations of other flavourings such as Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco etc. For this cocktail smoothie recipe you will need: 3 cups of ice cubes, 2 cups of vegetable juice (or tomato juice- the choice is yours), 3 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice (or shop bought), 1 tablespoon of prepared white horseradish, 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, 1/4 of a teaspoon of hot pepper sauce (or Tabasco), a pinch freshly ground black pepper.
Combine the ice, vegetable or tomato juice, lemon juice, horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, hot pepper sauce (or Tabasco) and black pepper into the cone shaped cup. Blend the mix until it comes out smooth. For presentation, pour into a tall glass and garnish with carrot, celery or pitted olives. You could also add in a 1/4 of a teaspoon of Peri Peri into the mix before you blend it if you want an added kick.
Virgin piña colada cocktail smoothie
The piña colada is a cocktail usually made from rum, coconut cream/coconut milk and pineapple juice. Hopefully this recipe will give you a sweet tasting cocktail smoothie that resembles the usual taste of a piña colada. For this recipe, you will need the following: 2 1/2 cups of fresh pineapple chunks, 1/2 cup of light coconut milk, 1/2 cup of sweetened flaked coconut, 1 tablespoon of honey, 1 cup of ice cubes. As mentioned previous, shops like Tesco or Sainbury’s offer ready cut pineapple if you are feeling lazy.
This one is really simple to make. Place all the ingredients into the Nutribullet’s cup and blend the mixture until it is smooth. To present it properly, pour into a Capri cocktail or Poco Grande glass and garnish with either a pineapple wedge, maraschino cherry or both
Fresh citrus & banana daiquiri cocktail smoothie
Daiquiri’s are a group of cocktails whose main ingredients are rum, citrus juice and sugar. This recipe hopefully retains the sharp, acidic taste of the citrus juice but adds in the complimentary ingredient of banana. To make this cocktail smoothie, you will need: 1 1/2 cups of fresh squeezed orange juice, 2 ripe bananas, 2 limes, a 1/2 cup of frozen peaches or mango, a 1/2 cup of frozen pineapple, a 3/4 of a cup ice, a pinch salt, 2 teaspoons of agave syrup.
Ideally you would want to freeze the fresh bananas before we use them. You don’t have to but it is the preferred suggestion. Take the two limes and squeeze the juices from them into the Nutribullet’s cup. Once this is done, add in the rest of the ingredients into the cup as well and blend until smooth. To serve, salt the rim (instructions above) of a cocktail glass and spoon the blended mix in. You can also garnish it with a lime slice if you want. To add in extra flavour, instead of using ice cubes, you could also use frozen cubes of fruit juice.
