5 Steps to Better Self Esteem and Loving Yourself

Having low self esteem is hard, especially when it seems to be a bitter circle that cant be broken. The Devil on one shoulder is far more listened to that the Angel on the other. Feeling down about yourself is one of the many symptoms of low self-esteem. Learning about it’s causes, and taking practical steps to rebuild your self-esteem, can help get rid of your negative thoughts. There is also professional support available, if you feel like nothing is working.

Here are my five top tips for dealing with low self esteem. These may or may not work for everyone. 

  1.  Don’t strive for perfection

    It’s really great if you want to do things well, but keep in mind that perfection isn’t possible. Keep your goals simple and easy.

  2. Don’t compare yourself to others

    It can be really tempting to measure ourselves against other people. You just need to figure out what your talents are. Everyone is great at something! Make a list of everything you love doing, keep it positive.

  3.  Celebrate the small stuff

    Start small and work your way up to the top, while it may seem a small thing now, it will create a ripple effect and lead onto bigger positive things.

  4. Surround yourself with supportive people

    This is important. Don’t hang around people who bring you down. Find a group of people who make you feel good about yourself and avoid those who help your negative thinking. Join a group of people who like doing what you do could help also.

  5. Focus on the things you can change

    There’s no point using your energy thinking about things that you can’t change. Why don’t you think about some of the things that are in your power to control? See what you can achieve by challenging your way of thinking.

Remember, there is always help available, check out the internet, doctors office, school nurse or even your friends for information. Chances are you aren’t the only one who has had a bout of low self esteem.
