As of May 2017, Netflix is now streaming over 50 anime series. Some are great whilst others are not so good. To get the full list of anime titles, you can use the Netflix Code 7424. Check out the article on Netflix Codes to see how to do this. With anime proving to be so popular, Netflix have debuted their first original anime series, Knights of Sidonia. Released in 2014, Knights of Sidonia now have 2 seasons available with a third season speculated to be released in July 2017 (but this has not been confirmed by Netflix).
What are the Best Anime Shows on Netflix?
With so many anime titles now available, it can be overwhelming to keep up all the shows that are being added. So, what is the best anime show on Netflix? The voting site Ranker have accumulated over 301,000 votes on the subject with the shows Attack on Titan, Death Note and Sword Art Online taking the top three spots. We have included a list of 13 of the top voted anime shows currently available on Netflix.
Gurren Lagann takes place in a fictional future where Earth is ruled by the Spiral King, Lordgenome, who forces mankind to live in isolated subterranean villages. The plot focuses on two teenagers living in a subterranean village, Simon and Kamina, who wish to go to the surface. Using a mecha known as Lagann, Simon and Kamina reach the surface and start fighting alongside other humans against Lordgenome’s forces.
Student council president Satsuki Kiryuin and her underlings, dubbed the Elite Four, rule Honnouji Academy. They have the school under complete control thanks to their special outfits — Goku Uniforms — that give them superhuman abilities. When transfer student Ryuko Matoi, who is searching for her father’s killer, comes to Hannouji, she challenges the Elite Four to a battle that quickly consumes the school. When Satsuki recognizes Ryuko’s scissor-shaped sword, she wonders if their encounter is just a coincidence or if it’s fate.
The plot of the episodes follows Yuki Cross, a student at the Cross Academy, where she acts as a guardian of the “Day Class” along with vampire hunter Zero Kiryu from the secret vampires of the “Night Class” led by Kaname Kuran.
The story is about a student named Kei Nagai, who discovers he is an immortal “Ajin” when he is hit by a truck. He becomes a wanted person because the Ajin are considered dangerous inhuman beings and the only person who is there to support him is his childhood friend, Kaito. While the government claims to help Ajin live in a safe environment, they are actually using them as subjects for cruel and inhumane experimentation. As a result, Ajin that have escaped are bent on revenge with the exception of Kei. During his escape it is subtly revealed he lacks the capacity for empathy and throughout the series only shows an interest in his own goals, however he actually tries to hide his feelings and cares about people closest to him.
The story follows the adventures of Garde pilot Nagate Tanikaze, who lived in the underground layer of Sidonia since birth and was raised by his grandfather. Never having met anyone else, he trains himself in an old Guardian pilot simulator every day, eventually mastering it. After his grandfather’s death, he emerges to the surface and is selected as a Guardian pilot, just as Sidonia is once again threatened by the Gauna, a race of shape-shifting aliens that destroyed earth.
Elfen Lied revolves around the interactions, views, emotions, and differences between human beings and the Diclonii, a mutant species similar to humans in build but distinguishable by two horns on their heads and “vectors”, transparent telekinetically controlled arms that have the power to manipulate and cut objects within their reach. The series is centered on the teenage Diclonius girl “Lucy” who was rejected by human beings and subsequently wants revenge.
Rokuro’s mundane trip to South East Asia turns from pleasure cruise to festival of pain when modern-day pirates take him hostage. Revy, Dutch, and Benny are the ruthless crew of the Black Lagoon. For them, getting shot at while smuggling drugs, guns, and stolen goods is part of a typical day at work – and Rokuro is joining the team.
